JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC

JUVÉDERM® Voluma™ XC dermal filler excels at addressing mid-facial volume loss. It also serves well for other contouring such as the chin and jaw-line. In addition, it works well to plump ear lobes for better seating of accessories and jewelry.

Unique among the Juvederm® family of dermal fillers, Voluma® focuses on midfacial contours. Volume—and thereby roundness—to the “apple” of the cheek, correct for a loss of collagen and fat that can lead to a flat or hollow look. Since volume loss in the midface also causes sagging, this filler can serve to provide a “liquid facial lift”.

The formulation lasts longer than most hyaluronic acid fillers in the skin. Vycross® crosslinking technology extends the longevity of this filler’s results (after full correction) up to 18 months.

Voluma  is a crystal-clear gel that is injected using an ultra-fine needle. The lidocaine inside the gel improves the comfort of the injection by reducing sensitivity to pain. Besides helping restore volume beneath the surface of different areas of the face without surgery, treatment additionally also boosts the skin’s resilience.

with optimal treatment lasts up to 18 months. This because of patented Vycross technology.

WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?

Hyaluronic acid, or HA, is a natural substance in the body that strongly binds to water. As a result it delivers volume and added resilience to the skin. Modified HA is the main ingredient behind JUVÉDERM ®. Different formulations have different physical properties. This allows selection of the optimal match for the problem at hand. JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® XC is the softest version, Voluma™ the firmest (think chin and cheeks), while VOLLURE® has the most pliability (laugh-lines).

Our practice  has educational displays that patients can interact with to experience what these different versions look and feel like.

Treatment  as a rule can be done in under 15 minutes. A temporary brief stinging sensation as generally well tolerated. Afterwards side effects can be in the form of tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. Side effects are transient and mild or moderate in discomfort . They generally last under 30 days. Juvéderm can reversed with Hyaluronidase.

IN THE NEWS

COVID-19 update. Delayed dermal filler inflammatory events very rarely occur with both hyaluronic acid and non-hyaluronic acid fillers. Evidence suggests these reactions can be immunologically triggered by viral and bacterial illness, vaccinations such as the influenza vaccine, and dental procedures. These rare adverse events are temporary and respond to treatments such as oral corticosteroids and hyaluronidase, and often resolve without treatment. Given currently available data, patients already treated with dermal fillers should not be discouraged or precluded from receiving vaccines of any kind. Similarly, patients who have had vaccines should not be precluded from receiving dermal fillers in the future. Specifically, with regard to the Moderna mRNA-1273 trial, there were a total of 3 reactions possibly related to dermal fillers out of 15,184 vaccine recipients. It is unknown how many subjects in the trial had previous treatment with dermal fillers.
