Q:        So, is SkinVive a new filler?

A:         No. SkinVive is a first-in-class injectable skin quality treatment.  It’s indicatio is for intradermal injection to improve facial skin smoothness and fine lines of the cheek areas in people 21 years of age and older. This applies to all skin types, in women and men!

Q:       How do I best understand this treatment?

A:        Think of it as an  “Injectable hydrator”    as in watering your garden. Hyaluronic acid increases your skin’s natural hydrating ability to retain moisture and softness. As a result SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM®, a modified hyaluronic acid gel formula, helps the skin retain its natural moisture and softness leading to an improvement in the skin smoothness of the cheeks.

Q:        Where does this fit in with other available skin treatments?

A:        Similar to non-ablatve lasers, microneedling, microdermabrasion and chemical peels, SkinVive™ has little to no down-time, but a treatment stands alone anddoes not require a series and can last six months.

Q:        Patients immediately after treatment with SkinVive™ could feel the product in their skin.  Lumps and bumps are not visable though. 

A:         About 47% of participants in the US clinical trial experienced this.  The majority of these resolve in 7 days.  The recommendation is to perform a firm massage after treatment even if it’s just a minute or two.

Q:        Can SkinVive™  be paired with another treatment in the same visit?

A:         Please note that US clinical trials do not include SkinVive treatments paired with with other treatments.  Patients in Europe and Canada are benefiting from SkinVive treatments since 2017.  A collection of data in Europe indicates that approximately 60% of SkinVive treatments are performed alongside Botox® treatments. SkinVive is injected first, followed by the Botox.

Q:        How much do I need?

A:         In our practice we use one syringe per side.

Q:        How long does the treatment take?

A:         A treatment takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Q:        What do I expect the treatment to be like?

A:         After topical anesthesia and disinfecting of the skin we evenly space and place the product in small aliquots, through a very thin needle. Subsequent massage completes the process. As a result, discomfort is minimal.

Q:        Does SkinVive™ replace topical skincare?

A:         No.  Skinvive is the first and only hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable proven to increase hydration in the dermis.  Topical skincare treats the epidermis, and is an ideal at-home regimen to continue.

Q:       Why does it take a month before increased hydration is felt and seen?

A:         A European study, shows SkinVive™ increases aquaporin-3 production.  Aquaporin-3 protein facilitates the flow of water and glycerin to and from the cells.  The increased presence of aquaporin-3 becomes evident at 1-month post-treatment.  The presence of the protein becomes even more notable at 3-months post-treatment.

Q:        How long does the increased dermal hydration last in SkinVive-treated skin?

A:         ∼6 months
