Microneedling

Reduce Acne Scarring and More in the Philadelphia Area

Skin responds to injury with an automatical healing process to fix it. In some cases, as with severe acne, these processes leave scars. In other cases, as with certain rejuvenating cosmetic procedures, these processes help create smoother, more even skin. Microneedling in Philadelphia and Havertown at Mind Your Skin is the latter. We use a highly advanced device to create measured, controlled micro-injuries. Ultimately this improves the look of the face—or wherever else it is applied.

Mind Your Skin’s aestheticians have specific training and are experienced with SkinPen® Precision, the device used for microneedling at the Havertown & Philadelphia practice. The aestheticians work with each patient one-on-one ensuring cosmetic concerns are accurately heard and that microneedling is the best treatment option.

SkinPen® by Bellus Medical is clinically proven to improve the appearance of facial acne scars for people aged 22 and above in all skin types. Can any other microneedling device make a similar claim?

In a word, no.

Here’s another claim no one else can make. The SkinPen® Precision device is the first ever with FDA clearance for microneedling! This is because it meets/exceeds their very strict standards.

SkinPen creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. This results in effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

Procedures take about 30 minutes, depending on the area treated (Face, neck, chest, hands, above the knee, etc.) and the desired results. Microneedling sessions usually require little downtime for patients because they are relatively non-invasive in nature.

Microneedling Details

SkinPen® Precision is a handheld device deploying hair-thin needles. These gently make numerous tiny channels, each of which triggers a multi-step wound-healing process. Not only does this process repair the channels created by microneedling, it also serves to improve the look, feel, and health of the surrounding skin. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) enhances the process (read on below).

Learn more about how microneedling triggers the three-stage wound-repair process.

Note that although many people resume daily activities within 24 hours of a treatment, the rejuvenation process following treatment is gradual over time. Results appear as collagen and other vital elements increase their presence in the skin in the weeks following a session.

Do a series, or combine with other treatments that are beneficial to achieve desired results. Schedule appointments at regular maintenance intervals to allow for an ongoing look of fresh, vibrant, smooth, and clear skin.

What Can Microneedling Treat?

In short: SkinPen® Precision is ideal for remodeling surface imperfections. Large pores and minor scar tissue—like marks left behind by acne outbreaks. It also  “keeps the ball rolling” after laser resurfacing and Profound radiofrequency microneedling.

Treatments to Complement Microneedling at Mind Your Skin

Protein-rich plasma (PRP) is a booster treatment. A vial is created out of your own blood, prepared and applied immediately following treatment. The growth factors in the plasma enhance the treatment result. They seep into the microchannels created during the SkinPen® procedure. This also reduces downtime. We like to call it a liquid bandaid. It has the repair capability that is on the ready in your blood at all times.

Skin Rejuvenation Options Beyond Microneedling in Philadelphia and surrounding Area

The aestheticians at Havertown’s Mind Your Skin know that different skin rejuvenation solutions work better for different people. In addition to microneedling, they offer two different types of rejuvenating exfoliation. Besides microdermabrasion, they carry a range of chemical peels. A microdermabrasion gently “polishes” away the dead cells that form the outermost layers of skin. Peels use balanced acids to directly impact the worn outer layers of skin and cause them to flake away.

Mind Your Skin also has laser skin tightening and lifting, laser skin resurfacing, laser skin rejuvenation, laser vein treatments, and laser hair removal available. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a related treatment that can address multiple cosmetic conditions. Our latest addition is the Profound radiofrequency microneedling device for skin tightening and rejuvenation.

Discuss which option may be best—or which can be combined—with the aestheticians and other members of the Mind Your Skin team.
