Letybo® (LetibotulinumtoxinA-wlbg) has finally made its way to the United States. Last year the FDA approved it for the frown lines. Letybo neurotoxin alternative is formerly called Botulax. In South Korea, a country that is a forerunner in cosmetic treatments, Letybo is the number one ‘toxin’.
Letybo® was approved in addition to the other neuromodulators available to injectors in the US (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, Daxxify, and Jeuveau). Each is a formula of botulinum toxin A. This interrupts signals between nerves and muscles, so the muscles don’t contract as much, therefore reducing wrinkles.
In our opinion Letybo neurotoxin alternative is going to be a potent competitor to Botox, Dysport, and the other neuromodulators. Anecdotally, in our practice it is showing a slightly faster onset. We expect similar duration of effect (3-4 months). Primarily it will stand out from the crowd by being more affordable. It shares a higher purity of manufacturing, similar to Xeomin, which can help stave off becoming resistant in the long run. This is not a real significant problem for most, but certainly nòt a bad thing!
Stay tuned! Galderma recently gained approval for a product called Relfydess in the EU; Relfydess is an entirely new strain of botulinum toxin.
