Q:        So, is SkinVive™ a new filler?

A:         No. SkinVive™ is a first-in-class injectable skin quality treatment made of hyaluronic acid.  It’s FDA approved indication is for intra-dermal micro-droplet injection to improve facial skin smoothness and fine lines of the cheek areas in people 21 years of age and older. This applies to all skin types, in women and men! Fillers, such as Juvéderm are typically also made of hyaluronic acid of different consistencies, but are deployed to correct loss of volume and contour, as well as deeper lines and folds.

Q:       How do I best understand this treatment?

A:        Think of it as an  “Injectable hydrator”  as in watering your garden. Hyaluronic acid increases your skin’s natural ability to retain moisture and softness. As a result SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® helps the skin retain its natural moisture and softness boosting improvement in the skin smoothness of the cheeks.

Q:        Where does this fit in with other available skin treatments?

A:        Similar to non-ablative lasers, micro-needling, micro-dermabrasion and chemical peels, SkinVive™ has little to no down-time, but a treatment stands alone and does not require a series. Treatment results in an overall improved hydration and can last six months. Think “glow that doesn’t go”.

Q:        For what and where is SkinVive used?

A:       Dry skin; rough texture/crepeyness; fine lines and wrinkles pretty much anywhere on the body: Face, necklines, chest, hands, etc.

Q:        Can I expect my skin to feel different somehow?

A:         About 47% of participants in the US clinical trial experienced a feeling the product in their skin.  Lumps and bumps are not visible though. The majority of these resolve in 7 days.  The recommendation is to perform a firm massage after treatment even if it’s just a minute or two.

Q:        Can SkinVive™  be paired with another treatment in the same visit?

A:         Please note that US clinical trials do not include SkinVive treatments paired with with other treatments.  Patients in Europe and Canada are benefiting from SkinVive treatments since 2017.  A collection of data in Europe indicates that approximately 60% of SkinVive treatments are performed alongside Botox® treatments. SkinVive is injected first, followed by the Botox.

Q:        How much do I need?

A:         In our practice we use one syringe per side.

Q:        How long does the treatment take?

A:         A treatment takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Q:        What do I expect the treatment to be like?

A:         After disinfecting of the skin we evenly space and place the product in small aliquots, through a very thin needle. Subsequent massage completes the process. As a result, discomfort is minimal. As a result, topical anesthesia is rarely necessary.

Q:        Does SkinVive™ replace topical skincare?

A:         No.  Skinvive is the first and only injectable hyaluronic acid microdroplet treatment proven to increase hydration in the dermis.  Topical skincare treats the epidermis, and is an ideal at-home regimen to continue.

Q:       Why does it take a month before increased hydration is felt and seen?

A:         A European study, shows SkinVive™ increases aquaporin-3 production.  Aquaporin-3 protein facilitates the flow of water and glycerin to and from the cells.  The increased presence of aquaporin-3 becomes evident at 1-month post-treatment.  The presence of the protein becomes even more notable at 3-months post-treatment.

Q:        How long does the increased dermal hydration last in SkinVive-treated skin?

A:         ∼6 months after optimal correction; some practices recommend a repeat treatment after two weeks, but we have seen good responses with a single treatment. (for the face that requires one syringe per side).
